Ferguson has been hailed as a mentor by present and former colleagues.
"I had the privilege of advancing my career side-by-side with Rhonda, celebrating our mutual successes over many years with a shared commitment to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession and beyond," said Discover Financial Services legal chief Wanjiku Walcott.
Laurie Robinson Haden, president and CEO of the Corporate Counsel Women of Color affinity network, said Ferguson's death hit her hard, especially following the recent deaths of A. Verona Dorch, Providence Health & Services' legal chief, and Midwin Charles, a former CNN and MSNBC legal commentator.
"The losses are unexpected—it can happen to anyone," Haden remarked. We should all take time to cherish each day and kiss our loved ones.
They were part of Haden's internal legal network. Haden also broke the news of Ferguson's death on LinkedIn.
